Gum Recession Treatment in Venice

We provide gum recession treatment that restores function and aesthetics to your gumline.

Minimally invasive Treatment for Receding Gums

Gum tissue covers the tooth roots and jawbone and protects them from damage, harmful bacteria and root sensitivity. In some patients, there is not enough gum tissue to adequately perform this function. This is often the case when gums have receded due to gum disease, but it can also happen because of genetics—due to thin gums in the first place—and because of a variety of other factors.

As a periodontist with over 40 years of experience, Dr. Feldman is a highly trained specialist in gum grafting procedures. In addition to traditional gum grafting surgery, Dr. Feldman is able to perform the minimally invasive Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique which treats gum recession without the need for incisions or sutures.

Causes of gum recession

The most common causes of gum recession are:

  • Gum disease
  • Brushing your teeth too hard
  • Poor oral care
  • Partial dentures that don’t fit right
  • Genetics
  • Smoking or use of tobacco
  • Grinding and clenching your teeth
  • Crooked teeth or a misaligned bite

Building up thin gums

The thickness of your gums is genetically determined. Normal wear on the gum tissues is likely to create gum recession in naturally thin gums, leaving your tooth roots and/or bone exposed. Gum grafting can be used to augment and strengthen gums that are too thin. This can be done in order to prevent future gum recession or to remedy recession that has already occurred.

Treatment for Gum Recession

Gum grafting consists of transplanting healthy tissue to an area suffering from recession. Dr. Feldman is very experienced in surgical procedures that correct gum recession or to thicken gum tissue that is too thin. Different options are available as to the precise surgical techniques and grafting material used.

Using the latest advanced 3D imaging equipment and digital X-rays, Dr. Feldman precisely diagnoses the condition of your gums. He will present you with the different options and take the time to make sure you have a full understanding of what is involved in each, so you can make an informed decision and feel comfortable about treatment.

Dr. Feldman uses microsurgical instruments in all his gum recession treatments, which makes the treatment less invasive. He also uses a team of three assistants during all procedures, making for a much faster, less invasive and more comfortable experience.

The minimally invasive Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique

Dr. Feldman is trained in the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique, the most recent innovation in gum recession treatment. With the pinhole technique, instead of incisions, minute “pinholes” are created in the gum tissue, using specialized microsurgical tools. The gum tissue is then gently adjusted in position, so that it covers the exposed tooth roots. This minimally invasive procedure requires doesn’t require sutures, and the entire mouth can be treated in just one visit!
