    Kodak Cone beam CT

    CT OVERVIEW

Not all CT machines and software are the same. They vary in their software’s approach to making 3D diagnostics understandable. The Kodak CT software is unique in the dental space as it allows the doctor to easily navigate and explain what is being seen to the patient without much confusion or instruction. It’s very “patient friendly” in its design. Patients are able to see what the doctor sees and understand where they are normal and where there are challenges. The XCPT software places everything needed for diagnosis and treatment planning on a single page in an understandable consistent manner. Our patients can then experience real doctor patient co-discovery. The patients express their amazement when they first experience our technology and are grateful they can be a part of the process. Letting the science decide care and not opinion or sales tactics is refreshing, to say the least...

Kodak CT Scans allow you to capture the present science behind our treatment recommendations so to prevent further damage from occurring. In short, we see just about everything and it is always good to find out what you will never feel until it is too late. When a CT is taken there is an enormous amount of visual information processed. We always look at each and every tooth and boney structure to reassure our patient that the issue they came to us for was only unique to that area, and not the tip of the iceberg. If no other findings are observed, a patient is given a “clean bill of dental health”. When the CT examination shows further needs, Dr. Feldman will then review all your options. The new issues are often early stage easy to treat problems.

CHOOSING THE KODAK 3D CT SCANNER

First and foremost, the patient’s best interest is our main priority. The objective of our care is to create a scientifically based, through, accurate, practical, easy to understand, cost effective and safe treatment plan for our patients. To achieve this goal and to fully understand what is occurring in a patient’s mouth the clinician must utilize all the latest technology that is available to date. In our office we use our clinical examination collectively with a Kodak CT 3D imaging study in conjunction with intraoral cameras photos and digital x-ray data to arrive at all our treatment recommendations. All conclusions are based around and determined by this collection of information. Every attempt is made to keep the guesswork out of the decision making process so to be extremely accurate and to help our patients make a well informed decision.

CT Scanning is the only current way to internally view, in 3D, what is actually occurring in the patient’s head and neck. Instead of irradiating a patient for a panoramic image or a single x-rays (FMX) in which the clinician is only getting a small portion of visual information, we request that a CT scan is taken to get all the data needed.

Kodak CT Scans allow you to capture the present science behind our treatment recommendations so to prevent further damage from occurring in the future. In short, we see just about everything. When a CT is taken there is an enormous amount of visual information processed. We always look at each and every tooth and boney structure to reassure our patient that the issue they came to us for was only unique to that area. A “clean bill of dental health” is then given to the patient.

THE RADIATION RISK FROM THE KODAK DENTAL CT SCANNER

A question often asked about the dental CAT scan (CT) or CT’s in general is how much radiation the patient absorbing. A dental CT is a pulsed beam of radiation unlike the medical CT which is a continuous beam of radiation. The pulsed beam dental scanner emits much less radiation (30 times less) than the medical CT and is a controlled calibrated amount. In our dental office, the scanner is only used to take a scan of the patient’s jaw and only by the staff of our office, who were trained, in office, by a Kodak certified trainer. In a medical setting, the CT machine (mostly GE scanners) is used by many different staff personal for many different types of medical needs. There is a wide range of radiation settings needed for different procedures. For example, the radiation needed for cancer diagnosis required is more than that for a scan of a knee. A problem arises when a patient receives the wrong amount of radiation because the machine was not recalibrated or correctly calibrated. The medical CT radiation problems you may have heard about in the news, is not comparable to the experience you will have in our office with the Kodak dental scanner. The amount of radiation is not much more than what a patient receives when he is a given a set of full mouth or panoramic x-rays.
